What Happens When a Baby is Teething?

Posted .

When chompers first begin erupting from your child’s jaw and through their gums, you’re probably going to enjoy the development as much as they will: that is to say not very much. This eruption phase can be difficult for the child, leaving their gums throbby and tender. Imagine the sensation of a new tooth erupting through the soft tissue spots of your mouth, and you’ll know rapidly why this is a difficult process for newborns.

To relieve some of the effects of teething for your child, we suggest you try to rub their gums with your (clean) fingers or a gauze pad. Soothing the throbby gums is key, so try cool your finger or the pad with some cold water before rubbing the child’s gums. If this proves insufficient, we recommend reaching our office for some advanced support.

You can make an appointment with Dr. Austin Bowden and the Kids First Pediatric Dentistry staff by dialing 410-828-5699 now or by stopping into their Timonium, Maryland, office. Don’t wait any longer: the welfare of your child is depending on you, and we’ll be here to help you both wear the strong, bright, shiny smiles you so deserve. We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!
