The Treatments Available for Kids’ Cavities

Posted .

If your child has a cavity, then it’s important to bring them into Kids First Pediatric Dentistry as soon as possible. Our dentists, Drs. Tracy Bowden, Austin Bowden, and Margie Hernandez strongly encourage this because cavities can get worse with time. If you ignore the cavity, then it can infect more of the teeth and more invasive treatments might be required. It’s best to treat the cavity immediately.

When you bring your child in for their appointment, our dentist will use one of many treatment options available. Some of those options include:

-Fluoride treatments: Fluoride can strengthen the tooth enamel and reverse the cavity. However, this is only the case at the very early stages of the cavity-developing process. The fluoride will seep into the enamel and essentially rebuild it.

-Dental filling treatment: This treatment is a common cavity-helping process that involves your dentist removing the decayed enamel, cleaning the chomper, filling the hole with a composite or amalgam filling, and hardening the filling with a special light.

-Dental crown treatment: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that replaces the tooth enamel and restores all health and function to the tooth. This treatment is used when the cavity is too severe for fillings.
