Dental Sealants: The Facts

Posted .

You know that there are a number of things you could do if you’re interested in keeping your kid’s teeth healthy and strong. For instance, you probably know that brushing and flossing should be important parts of protecting their oral health. Still, there are other things you could do—such as considering the benefits of dental sealants.

You see, sealants are placed over a tooth to protect it from food and bacteria. Sealants are typically applied to the back teeth because they can be difficult to clean as well as you should. After sealants are placed, your teeth will be better protected from cavities. Furthermore, sealants can actually last for more than ten years.

Essentially, a sealant adds a second layer of protection to your tooth. Typically, sealants are applied when your child is between six and twelve years old. Still, adults may also be able to have sealants placed, if your mouth is healthy. If your mouth isn’t as healthy as it should be, we may be able to address any issues you may have and then place sealants.

Finally, please remember that you’ll still need to brush and floss your teeth well and schedule appointments with us regularly.
